Who Sang The First Song? by Ellie Holcomb
Every day I watch Brynna, my daughter, sit and read books to the littler girl she finds in the mirror. Though she is eleven years old, she is functionally still a toddler and is non-verbal for the most part. She doesn’t play like other children play, she doesn’t run, she doesn’t play tag, but she absolutely loves her books.
When I saw Who Sang the First Song by Ellie Holcomb, I knew it had to be in our collection. The first thing to draw me towards this book was the collection of stunning illustrations. As an artist, the quality and joy captured in its pages captivated my attention. Every face, every scene, seemed to capture the love and joy God intended and created in all of us.
I’ve often marveled at beautiful sunsets, precious animals, or newborn babies, wondering all the while what God was thinking when He created such wonderful things for our joy. Many times I’ve wondered what He was thinking when He formed Brynna as our special gift on this earth. Ellie Holcomb helps to answer those questions as she artfully captures the heart of God in this charming book.
In particular, I was touched by the idea that God wrote His song into everything. Everyone has hope, everyone has value, and everyone is loved. A timeless message for a time in desperate need of hearing it again. If you have a small child, grandchild, or just love great children’s stories, you need a copy of Who Sang the First Song?
Ellie Holcomb is a singer/song-writer from Nashville, Tennessee. After touring with her husband, Drew Holcomb, Ellie launched her solo album, As Sure As the Sun, catapulting her to being chosen the “Best New Artist” at the 2014 Dove Awards. Though she has found success as a singer-songwriter and solo artist, I am convinced she will find even more success as a children’s book author.
