He Is Greater

Many years ago while serving as a youth pastor at a local church I met a guy. He was dating and would soon marry one of the girls in our youth group. His name is Josh Otten. Over the years he and his lovely wife Shawnna have become more than friends, they are family. In fact, they are our children’s godparents.

We’ve been through some mighty deep waters together and some amazingly wonderful mountaintop experiences. Josh served as one of my elders for years before our church merged with a sister church nearby two years ago. As providence would have it, all the other elders were relocated for work, but Josh stayed with us to see us through the transition.

I don’t have words for what this brother and his family mean to me, but maybe this will express it a bit.

Josh is a very talented singer-songwriter. Several years ago he penned a song called “He Is Greater.” He graciously allowed us to sing it in worship at church and it soon became one of our favorites and a staple of worship in our small rural congregation.

This song has meant a great deal to us over the years raising Brynna and serving as foster parents because there have been many times we simply needed to be reminded that He IS Greater!

He is greater than our circumstances.

He is greater than our failures.

He is greater than our good days.

He is greater than our bad days.

He is simply …. GREATER!
