When I graduated from High School my mom gave me a book. She wasn’t the first mom to do so, and she wont be the last. It’s sort of become a tradition, a standard gift to give a young lad or lass about to begin their journey into a sometimes dark and dangerous world. The book wasn’t about winning friends or influencing people, it wasn’t about making money, or achieving fame. It was a little book by Dr. Suess called “Oh the Places You’ll Go.”

I Wonder What Foster Children Think at Church?

About a week after K. came to live with us, we noticed something; he LOVED to go to church. He asks us almost daily, “Do we go to church damarrow?” When we say “yes” gets really excited, his countenance aflame with joy. We found him a small Bible to carry, and he carries it proudly every service. It is really sweet to see. Though he doesn’t yet understand many of the words, he still wants me to read from it each night after we read something on his level.

Today began as a heavy-hearted day. On the news I saw a story of three children killed in a tragic accident at a bus stop. Last night a dear family in our community suddenly lost a child. Yesterday a another lady and two children were killed in a car accident. These are heavy times, deep waters. Thomas Paine was once quoted as saying, “These are the times that try men’s souls.” Indeed.
